The Texan Theatre by Tayler Hammons
On January 23, 2009, the students toured the Texas Theatre in
Cleveland, Texas.
The City of Cleveland, Texas, has 5 original buildings. There was a
grocery store, a newspaper office, 2 other buildings, and the Texas
Theatre, on the street we now call Houston St.
It took a total of $30,000 to build it, back in 1939.
Clifford Dunn, the owner and the person who runs the theatre, bought
it back in 1994, and completed remodelling it in September, 2008,
after Hurricane Ike.
The Theatre can hold approximately 275 people. During the
remodeling, they made pieces of homemade artwork that took three
years to make. Now it is called the Texan Theatre; it was first called
the Texas Theatre.
While you're at the movies, notice some of the exquisite details; if you
look closely, you will notice there are holes in the walls. They are used
to control sound in the building.
There are some things you may not know. For instance, did you know
that you watch about 30 pictures per second on the screen?
The next time you go to the theatre, sit down and notice the features
of the building. Then relax and enjoy a movie at the Texan Theatre, a
very Texas Movie Theatre.
Movies start at 7:00 PM every night, with extra shows at 9:00 PM on
Friday and Saturday nights. The doors open at 6:15 PM.
